CASE STUDY
Project: Piedmont Driving Club
Challenges: Originally constructed in 1887, the Piedmont Driving Club has seen assorted renovations over the years. In 2008 the club decided to do a major renovation of the existing building while adding a new parking deck, pool courtyard, dining facility, racquetball courts, tennis facility, locker rooms, and exercise area. LMI was hired by the owner to design build a new low-voltage infrastructure including new telephone and network cabling, new security systems and complete audio/video system. One of our biggest challenges was the lack of documentation of the existing building infrastructure or any of its existing systems. The project also required that existing systems be maintained until the new system were ready for cut-over.
Solution: LMI joined weekly meetings with the General Contractor for coordination of the new areas being constructed. We spent the first two weeks documenting the existing facility and systems and created shop drawings detailing the new systems to be installed. We ultimately established and built a new main computer room in the new facility to allow us to keep the old systems up and running during the installation of the new systems.
Results: The project was deemed a success by the club and its members who were excited about the new technologies we installed. The General Contractor was also impressed with our delivery and subsequently invited LMI to join other projects.
